The Stark County OVI Task Force was awarded $158,623.14 in federal traffic safety funding to Stark County for federal fiscal year 2010. Perry Township and the Perry Township Police Department will also be administering the Stark County OVI Task Force grant under the direction of Chief Mike Pomesky and Fiscal Officer Joe Schlegel. Perry Township continues to be in one of the top 10 counties in the State of Ohio for alcohol related fatalities. Officers will pay particular attention to high crash areas with strict enforcement being taken on crash causing violations and the impaired driver. Efforts will be concentrated during the holiday seasons and during special events. Perry Township Police Department is working to continue that trend in Perry Township.The Officers of the Perry Township Police Department will be working during various times of the year to help reduce alcohol related crashes and increase safety seat belt usage throughout Perry Township. In the past three years, Ohio’s roadway fatalities have decreased to near record lows. The funds are passed through OTSO from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to support the efforts of safety partners statewide and focus on traffic safety priority areas such as restraint use, impaired driving, motorcycle safety and youthful drivers.
